Fort Sint Pieter

One of the most striking features of the Maastricht defensive works is Fort St. Pieter, dating from 1701-1702.

 It was completely restored in 2007, and the field of fire was cleared once again. You can now walk through the long corridors and even get right onto the top of the fort, where you will be rewarded with a magnificent view over Maastricht, the Meuse valley and the Jeker valley.

The strategic positioning of the fort and the possibilities and hazards for the defenders and attackers suddenly becomes strikingly self-evident. You can also see and hear how the cannons once worked and how ingeniously the fort is put together on the inside as well as outside
