In two former barns once used for housing animals at the Lichtenberg farmstead, the “Stichting Oud Sint Pieter” (Association of the former municipality of St. Pieter) maintains an exhibition, which changes every year, focusing on the former municipality - which became part of Maastricht in 1920.
The museum devotes attention to various topics, including the quarrying of marl - as a result of which many of the underground passageways created in former centuries have disappeared - the canal that once ran from Liège to Maastricht, various churches and chapels, the fort, the large farmsteads, the Castle of Caestert (which no longer exists), the management of the St. Pietersberg hill by the Nature Reserves Association (Vereniging Natuurmonumenten) and the future of the ENCI quarry.
Various displays are devoted to fossils from the Cretaceous period, archaeological and prehistoric artefacts, mushroom farming and the cutting of marl blocks.
Tools formerly used in farming and horticulture are also on display, and there is a permanent exhibition of historic films and slides.
Every last Sunday of the month, the old bakery that once served the farmhouse is fired up and fresh bakery products are made on the spot, the botanical garden is opened to visitors, and children can look at marl fragments, fossils and insects under a microscope.
